Smartphones are everywhere, it seems! It’s nearly impossible to go anywhere these days without seeing people staring at their little computer screens, and occasionally, even using their phones to talk to people!
Why are we so in love with smartphones? A lot of researchers are digging into that very question right now, due to fascination, concern, and innovation. Here’s our list of favorite four reasons why we think people are digging their smartphones.
1. Email, email, email
This one merits three mentions because that’s the function that millions of people are utilizing the most on their phones: email. Why?
Well, the answer to that depends on the person, but it’s likely related to their job, and their hobbies, and the phenomenon that we’re going to talk about next.
2. Fear of missing out
Fear of missing out, known commonly as FOMO, is both a concern for society and a marketing opportunity. Simply put, people become afraid that they’re missing out on something important, and that’s why they check their smartphones, which often connect them to social media sites, news sites, or email.
Those are the primary sources of information for many people, and that’s where they’re keeping an eye now, because smartphones enable people to stay connected to news, friends, and family around the clock, at any physical location.
3. Photos
People love to take photos, and especially (since the handy technology is new), videos. Never before has it been possible to capture so many moments, because in the past, you wouldn’t carry your camera with you everywhere.
But your phone goes everywhere, and therefore a camera goes everywhere with you now, too. The other upside is that there’s no hassle with film and development, when you’ve got digital photography. That makes it cheaper too!
4. Comparison shopping
Comparison shopping is amazingly empowering and helpful to consumers. That’s why millions of people are using their smartphones for that purpose.
It might be something as simple as checking Amazon or Ebay for prices to compare against the shelves of your local offline retailer, or it might be a bigger-ticket item, like comparing mortgage rates on a piece of real estate in Canada that you’re about to buy.
The savings garnered thanks to smartphones can easily pay for their cost!
