We definitely like our Nikon dSLRs, such as the excellent D90, D80 and D40, but let’s not forget there’s an increasing range of compact digital cameras from Nikon, including the four COOLPIX model ranges just announced.
Detailed camera specs are pretty boring (but I’ll give you the links if you want to find out more), so here are the highlights.
Perhaps the most exciting in terms of possibilities is the COOLPIX S1000pj. Nikon claims it’s the first compact camera to feature a built-in projector that means you can share your images and videos wherever there’s a wall or screen handy.
It comes with a remote control and a stand for convenience.
Other features include 12.1-megapixel 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, high ISO 6400 for shooting in low light conditions, various autofocus modes and help when taking photos of people plus a range of shooting modes.
The COOLPIX S70 features an OLED touchscreen display for vivid previewing of shots and ease of use, 12.1-megapixels and 5x optical zoom plus the same sorts of shot modes as the S1000pj.
The COOLPIX S640 offers 12.2-megapixel 5x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD TFT anti-glare screen and similar shooting modes and features as the previous cameras.
Finally, the COOLPIX S570 offers many of the same features as the S640 but with a 12.0-megapixel lens.
All available in a range of colors, exact pricing and availability will vary from country to country.
