Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 Elite games console has dropped in price by $100 so that it’s now $299.99. In the UK it will now cost £199.99.
The Xbox 360 Pro will be phased out, with remaining stocks priced at $249.99, while the Xbox 360 Arcade will retail for $199.99 (£159.99).
It’s probably in response to Sony’s recent PS3 announcement though you won’t hear Microsoft admitting that, suggesting instead that it’s all to do with the holiday season and “deep experiences that don’t require deep pockets”.
What’s immediately obvious is that both 120GB capacity Xbox 360 and new slimmer PS3 both cost around the $300 mark. Of course you’ll find deals on both if you shop around, but it’s clear that Sony and Microsoft are both aggressively pushing their gaming solutions.
