If Canon’s new PowerShot range of cameras aren’t quite your thing, perhaps you’ll like the new Digital IXUS 200 IS — the slimmest wide-angle compact camera to date.
With 12.1-megapixels, a 24mm ultra-wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom, and incorporating a touchscreen LCD, Canon is jumping on board with the new “tap screen to focus” technology that Apple heralded on the iPhone 3G S and we saw a similar version of last week on the Samsung ST1000.
In other words, tap on the face of someone you want to focus on and the camera will track and autofocus on them.
Canon has also built in “scene detection technology” which is supposed to work out the optimum settings based on the subject matter — another auto mode for point-and-shooters.
There’s even a built-in accelerometer so you can simply tilt the camera to flick through the shots you’ve already taken — a bit of a gimmick but sure to please some.
Available in blue, gold, purple and silver body colors, with exact pricing and availability dependent on your location.
