The Philippines and China are both in territorial disputes over the Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. The Philippines has called for international support amid this ongoing row. While the country has sent its troops to the shoal, China has also sent vessels to the area and word is out that the Chinese may be building an airstrip in the disputed reef. More so, brief descriptions are included with the gadget image/name. And if your preferred gadget is not in their list, you can always add it via the Wildcard section at the bottom of each page. After all, just because T3 has not identified a certain product to be on their voting list, it does not mean that the gadget is not worthy of a vote!
With the voting open, experts are saying that at the end of the day, the main battle will be between Apple and Android devices. Looking at the list of gadgets in the categories that T3 has made available, it is difficult to disagree.

Just because you love gadgets does not mean you throw all caution to the wind when it comes to being environmentally friendly, does it? Indeed, more and more, developments in the realm of technology include Mother Earth in the list of considerations. After all, it is only to our own benefit to do so.
Now take a look at that image again. Hard as it may be to believe, that is not entirely made of plastic! The casing is actually made of recycled paper and polypropylene alloy. True, polypropylene is still considered a plastic, but with the incorporation of recycled paper, the use of plastic is significantly reduced. And you don’t even have to worry all that much about the trees as the paper used is recycled. Can you think of a better way to get rid of the stacks of paper that you have lying around the house?
This technology is the brainchild of PEGA Consulting Group ((PEGA)), which was showcased at the Milan Furniture Fair. More than being environmentally friendly – everyone claims this about their products these days anyway – is there anything else that points to the success of this new material for casings for gadgets?
Definitely. One may think that paper is too fragile, especially for electronic devices that may be exposed to a lot of wear and tear. However, the resulting alloy has properties which allow it to perform as good as – or even better than – the plastics used today. The Paper PP Alloy is strong, sturdy, and yet flexible.
On the consumer side, the development of the Paper PP Alloy means lessening our individual carbon footprint and yet getting value for our money. According to PEGA, the materials and processes used to create the alloy are not expensive, so this might mean savings on our part. I am not too sure about that, though. One thing is for sure – the manufacturers do not have to make major changes in their processes since the current injection molding method can still be used with the alloy.
It does not come as a surprise that the group has already received an award for this development. It should also not come as a surprise to us if we see gadgets using this material for their casing in the near future. Oh, and in case you really are into good – and environment friendly – design, you really ought to browse PEGA’s web site. It is a veritable treasure trove of eye candy!
Sadness all around. Yesterday, the news that Cisco is killing the handheld video camera, Flip, spread like wildfire. The reason for Flip getting the ax? It is simply part of a revamp that is going on at the big company, and like it or not, Flip is just a small part of the picture.
When the video camera came out in the market, it immediately caught the attention of consumers. Not only is is ultra portable and convenience, it also cost a fraction of the price of regular video cameras. In 2009, Cisco bought Flip. Less than two years later, however, Cisco has decided to shut down this business in order to cut costs.
This move has surprised customers and business experts. It’s not like Flip is not the top selling video camera in the United States. In fact, it did make the top of the sales charts last year. Even in other parts of the world, one can see Flip being advertised in a lot of places. The rationale behind killing the product line is one that does not seem to make sense at this point. Indeed, there is the option of selling the business instead of simply shutting it down. We may never know the true reason, but those who have loved and used their Flip over the years can rest in the fact that they have one. For those who have not had the pleasure of having a Flip, it is not too late. Cisco says that they will sell off all remaining units. This might be the perfect time to get one!
