Where I live, things are starting to heat up – literally. We’re right smack in the middle of summer, and if I am not mistaken, it is one of the hottest summers in history. Even if you are inside the house, you melt because of the heat. Go out in the sun, and you will definitely not be able to stand it for a long time. Thank God for air conditioning – and the Fanbrella.
This gadget is not a totally new concept, but it is perfectly executed for people who are in hot climates. Manufactured by Hammacher, this umbrella will do more than shield you from getting hit directly by the sun’s hot rays. The Fanbrella is more than the normal umbrella because its canopy has built-in UV protection – UPF 50+. Your dermatologist may require you to use creams to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, but using an umbrella with UV protection is even better!
That’s not the best thing about the Fanbrella, though. More than having UV protection, you also get a built-in fan right under the canopy! Talk about a cool umbrella – and again, I speak literally. The fan has three blades and can be activated by a button that is found at the bottom of the handle. The fan rotates at 650 rpm (maximum), which will ensure a decent breeze flowing down on you. People living in the tropics will definitely know and appreciate how much of a difference this little fan can make.
You will need six AA batteries to power the fan. The downside is that one set of batteries will last only 5.5 hours if the fan is turned on continuously. That may seem long enough but if you are planning to spend the entire day outside, you may want to bring along an extra set of batteries.
