Has your long distance relationship been taking its toll on you? Being far apart for extended periods of time is not for every couple, but sometimes, things can’t be helped. If others have succeeded at long distance relationships, why can’t you?
Then again, if technology can help you with your issues, you might as well take advantage of it, right? (Maybe not.)
Enter the Kiss Transmission Device, a gadget that has been developed by The Kajimoto Laboratory at the University of Electro-Communications in Japan. And yes, the device does what it says on the tin – it transmits kisses so that partners who are physically far from each other can, let’s say, enjoy more than each other’s company.
But how can you transmit a kiss for real?
Two words: “tactile communications”.
Basically, what the researchers are trying to do is to get the device to give the user a real feeling that he or she is kissing with his or her partner. Okay, I can’t do this – it’s just too weird – so let’s get the explanation straight from the horse’s mouth.
This device is for communications within the mouth, in other words, the goal is to obtain the feeling of kissing. If you take one device in your mouth and turn it with your tongue, the other device turns in the same way. If you turn it back the other way, then your partner’s turns back the same way, so your partner’s device turns whichever way your own device turns.
It is achieved only by motor rotations, and you control the rotation positions via PC. It is called a bilateral control, and the turn angle information is sent reciprocally by both devices to maintain the same position. Right now the values are handled by one PC, but if a system is put together to handle the values over a network, then it would be easy for this operation to be conducted remotely.
The researchers also mention “elements of a kiss”: sense of taste, manner of breathing, and moistness of the tongue. Man, oh, man.
The entire thing system is not yet complete, but we definitely see where this is going. Now I don’t know about you, but while I know that there might be a market for this gadget (albeit a doubtful one), I am too weirded out by the idea. Just because I don’t want to be alone in this, why don’t you watch the video below? 😉
